Secret Land’ is the perfect accompaniment for cloud watching on a sunny summer’s day; floating along calmly, gradually twisting and turning to form different shapes and patterns with a light, fluffy texture that softens the eye’s focus on the skies. Building Castles Out of Matchsticks, aka Anne Suliokowski, create beautiful, romantic ambient electronica that could soundtrack the very best of daydreams. 16 tracks in length, it’s a veritable wealth of tranquillity where tracks like ‘Bardzo Daleko’ and ‘All You Leave Behind’ transport you from the stressful hustle and bustle of life on Earth to a more peaceful other world where everything smells of lavender and no one ever raises their voice.

Intricate, interesting records will always have their place in music and ‘Secret Land’ is no different. However, as Sulikowski’s work is not very widely known as of yet, this album may go largely unnoticed by the mass media – a shame that they should concentrate more on identikit indie rather than genuinely thought-provoking records such as this. Go hunt this out, press play and relax in your very own secret land. It’s the best therapy you will ever find.

I was privileged to have heard most of these works well before the album was conceived and snapped up by Trace Recordings and Mark Beasley, as I have collaborated with Anne for many years. I thank the reviewer for a very beautiful snapshot of the album, it is indeed a masterpiece of ‘otherland’ a place of superb daydreams.
No one makes music like Anne Sulikowski, do yourselves a large favour and check out her other work. Just Google her and follow all the miriad links.
