Written by Krystal Sim

Morning dears. Head okay? Oh well, it was worth it wasn’t it? Happy Saturday to one and all. This week’s film roundup is a dreamy, if slightly screamy affair but I think you can handle it. Enjoy.
1.The Lovely Bones *The405 Pick of The Day*
Released: 29 January 2010

Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Alice Seabold’s novel of the same name tells the story of Susie Salmon (Ronan). Taking a shortcut home from school one day, Susie is met by neighbour and dollhouse builder George Harvey (Stanley Tucci). He brutal rapes and murders her, dismembering her body to cover up the crime. Susie’s spirit is whisked away to her own personal heaven, where she watches her parents (played by Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz) as they struggle to accept her disappearance and death. She also watches over her killer Harvey, who has escaped punishment, hoping for justice to catch up with him before he kills again. Her father and sister come to suspect Harvey but the police need proof. Expect lush visuals as Susie explores “the inbetween” space and a soundtrack by Brian Eno.

Boggis and Bunce and Bean, One short, one fat, one lean. These horrible crooks, so different in looks, were nonetheless equally mean. The Roald Dahl classic story of the cheeky fox who steals from the aforementioned mean farmers has been given the stop-motion treatment by Royal Tenenbaums director Wes Anderson, albeit with a left of centre heist vibe to it.

How could you possibly fail to mention the brilliance of Where The Wild Things Are and the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus... and yet include Jennifer's Body?! Tsk tsk tsk.

Because WTWTA has featured on the film roundup already a few weeks ago!

These are some seriously weird spam comments. They gotta be spam though right? Complementary spam..?!

Spam that says nice things about your site so you won't delete it, but still gets the spam link out there. Sneaky spam. We probably shouldn't be approving them.

The link is available by clicking on my name for this comment. Not overly happy with the sub-editing, just to cover my own back... :P [view article]

Yo Jake, where your review at, i'm curious! I think for me what made it stretch to 9/10 was teh fact it's really accessible and just occupies it's own little niche so well right now, I really can't think of a band with another recent release that I could compare them adequately to. Anyway, glad you liked it! [view article]

I love how everyone always forgets that this isn't the full lineup by a long shot and a good chunk of the best bands aren't usually announced straight away. [view article]

All three are worth a listen to be fair. I wouldn't have stretched quite as far as 9/10 (in fact, I didn't when I reviewed it elsewhere), but it is very good. Dusty Fruit is probably my favourite track (the early version of it, "Don't Trust the Dusty Fruit", is also very good!). [view article]

Jake, I know what you mean, but if i'd have admitted that it wouldn't have fitted my whole 'difficult second album' bit now would it? ;) [view article]
