X FACTOR VS. JEFF FACTOR

Long ago I learnt to accept that the charts were not worth fussing over. I was fine with the fact that meaningless, manufactured singles are always going to shoot straight to number one, especially during Christmas time, because really, what does it matter?
That was before I learnt that the latest product from the X Factor conveyabelt was to be yet another cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'. The only difference between this single and all other versions of 'Hallelujah' ever recorded is that it has no originality, no soul, and its only purpose is to sell.
I then heard that a campaign had been launched to get Jeff Buckley's version of the classic to number one. I decided it was about time that we restore a bit of quality to the world of mainstream pop, and prevent Simon Cowell from taking a great proverbial piss all over one of the greatest living songwriters, so I downloaded Buckley's version of the track. I hope you do too.

Nirvana, mainly because they were over and done with before I was musically conscious so Dave Grohl couldn't ruin them for me by how intrinsically annoying he is. [view article]
