Hello and welcome to our top 20 EPs of the year list!
Many of you will have heard most of the EPs on this list (we hope) - it shows we are doing our job properly by informing you of the best music this big ol' planet has to offer!
We think you should approach this list like 20 beautiful little windows. Look into the hard working lives of these sexy musicians and we promise you'll find lots of music worth your time and your love. Seriously, have a listen to any of the EPs on this list that you haven't heard, you have our word that it'll be worth it.
To clarify, an extended play release generally has too much music to be called a single, and not enough to be called an album. The format was mostly used as a tool to keep fans interested in major label bands between big budget albums and was usually full of alternate versions or remixes. These days it is mostly used by bands that are bursting with talent but cannot afford to record a full length album and is usually full of songs designed to garner enough attention to start something approaching a career in the music industry.
This change is reflected in our list, which you should note, is in no particular order (Although a hefty nod should go towards Chad Valley whose release proved popular amongst the staff). It was voted for by our darling contributors and proves both their impeccable taste and our good fortune to be able to call them our team. I'll be honest with you dear reader, we just love EPs, they suit our hyperactive, uber busy lives perfectly.
This year has been fantastic for good new music. This list stands as a testament to that. We hope you enjoy it.
Love from the 405 x
