New Music Friday: May 10th 2013

    by Gareth O'Malley

Hello again, and welcome to the latest instalment of New Music Friday. How was your week? I hope you made the most of it; I certainly did, but the downside of that was that I spent a lot of time travelling. Even then, it wasn't so bad, because whilst sitting on trains and buses this week, I managed to get to grips with a lot of new music. [read more]

    The 405 meets Vhvl

    by Woodrow Whyte

"My process can be extremely destructive. I was told early on by a peer that I'd probably end up dying from torturing myself in order to call upon abysmal memories in order to create music. Ironically, I'd have to say my favourite thing (about making music) is my process, being able to feel a certain level of emotion reminds me that I am alive. I like knowing I'm alive." We had a chat with Vhvl. [read more]

Hold onto your highchairs because I'm about to shatter some misconceptions. CANADA is not a country in North America: they are a trifold collective of video artists. They are not Canadian, they hail from Barcelona, the city of artistic vitality. How are you feeling? Okay? Pon De Replay: Edition No.5

    by Huw Oliver

There are two main things you should you know about Njomza, Chicago's most precocious and outspoken RnB upstart. The first is that she makes incredible pop music; the second, that she just can't help taking her clothes off. Some advice: start by kicking back to the material on her latest mixtape, Gold Lion, a masterwork of chilled-out late-night slow jams, all graceful, auto-tuned perfection and sombre, Drake-like production. And only then look at its artwork. [read more]

    Black Vase: May 2013 Edition

    by Ben Martin

Aidan Baker's release list on Discogs runs for five pages, and I can't be certain that it's either comprehensive or complete. He is an artist of such abundant output that it's impossible to know where to begin. [read more]

    The 405 meets Ghostpoet

    by Gareth O'Malley

I don't always interview people first thing on Monday morning, but when I do, I try to make sure they're as engaging as Obaro Ejimiwe, the man known as Ghostpoet. The worst thing about the whole arrangement was that he and I had already done this a month ago, and I lost the entire thing due to a technical screw-up on my end, leading to much frustration and gnashing of teeth.
