9 stabbed and one man dies at Swedish House Mafia gig
45,000 people turned out in Phoenix Park, Dublin this weekend for the latest leg of Swedish House Mafia's farewell tour but celebrations took an ugly turn after nine people were stabbed in what appear to be unprovoked attacks during the gig. One man was arrested and is expected to be charged with at least four of the stabbings while two of the victims remained seriously injured in hospital.
Glass bottles and knives were used in the attacks which took place during the massive show which featured Snoop Dogg and Tinie Tempah despite security checks upon entry to the site as Denis Desmond, MD of the promoters MCD explained: "Ticket holders entering the site were subject to a search permissible by law. Every precaution, as far as possible, was taken to ensure the safety and security of the audience at all times. Despite our best efforts – with security and gardaí personnel levels well in excess of the required numbers for a licensed event of this size – there is only so much one can do to combat anti-social behaviour."
The sister of one of the victims told the Irish Independent how her brother was "He was just watching the show when someone came up and stabbed him four times in the back. He didn't know the guy. He can hardly remember it. He said it was all a blur," she said. "Two other guys who are on his football team were also attacked but he wasn't at the concert with them."
Also at the event one man died of a suspected drug overdose, the man was taken to the medical tent at around 7pm before later dying in hospital.
