AIM Independent Music Awards for Edwyn Collins and Daniel Miller

The winners of two awards at the AIM Independent Music Awards have been announced, the awards being for Outstanding Contributions to Music and the Pioneer Award.

Edwyn Collins will be rewarded by the Association of Independent Music for his Contribution to the industry. The Scot whose impressive career started out over 30 years ago with the band Orange Juice before turning solo in the early nineties going on to produce records for artists such as The Cribs, The Proclaimers, Space and Little Barrie. Collins received an Ivor Novello Award for Inspiration after recovering from two brain hemorrhages in 2005 and has since recorded the brilliant collaboration album Losing Sleep which included guest spots from Ryan Jarman, Johnny Marr, Alex Kapranos and Roddy Frame of the Drums.

The second award is on its way to Daniel Miller who pioneered the use of the synthesizer with projects such as The Normal and Silicon Teens as well as creating his own label, Mute Records. Miller and Mute were the driving force behind acts such as Depeche Mode and Yazoo while current artists include Yeasayer, Cold Specks and Beth Jeans Houghton.

Both Collins and Miller will be recognised officially at the awards ceremony to be held in Clerkenwell on the 29th October which will reward many other stars who have made contributions to the independent music industry over the past 12 months.
