Bobby Womack diagnosed with cancer
Soul legend Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with cancer. The truly upsetting news emerged last night after Bootsy Collins updated fans on Facebook. "I JUST SPOKE TO OUR FRIEND BOBBY WOMACK," Collins wrote. "He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thxs for the Prayers. Docs Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer, He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up."
Womack, had been in hospital receiving treatment for pneumonia Saturday before doctors discovered the 68 year old had cancer of the colon. This had been the stars second admission to hospital this month after having to cancel a show due to undergoing minor heart surgery after complaining of a "severe shortness of breath".
Born Robert Dwayne Womack the former backing guitarist for Sam Cooke started his career in the early 60’s, going on to record the original version of ‘Its All Over Now’ June 1964 with his group The Valentinos which later became the Rolling Stones first number one when they covered the song just a month afterwards. With 26 studio albums already to his name Womack is due to release the twenty seventh, rather eerily entitled The Bravest Man in the Universe later this year.
