As the year draws to a close, bands typically tend to shut up shop, with press, and fans, springing into action and assembling their ‘Top 10 Albums’ of the year. While many of these lists will be well considered and provoke intense debate, we do have to suffer the indignation which is the ‘BBC Sound of’ list, which will no doubt contain a list of pop-tastic bores. However independent artists pay no attention to this traditional lull, and this week’s selection of new tracks is full of the usual promise and talent that we’ve become used to here in Cloud Corner!

They sound like they’d be a rather jovial hip hop act, though the reality is quite the opposite. A beautifully downbeat acoustic track that has a Jon Foreman ring to it.

Incorporating some of the soulful melancholy that originates from their Kentucky home, ‘Black Kite’ glides opaquely from beginning to end.

’Sexual’ by PONCHOS

To paraphrase a well worn football cliché, ‘Sexual’ is certainly a track of two halves. Beginning with a serene sense of clarity, this is matched by a latter period of slightly demonic distortion. Some rather inspiring moments in this track.

’Undress’ by Modern Human

’Undress’ sounds like it was penned by a stalker extraordinaire, however there is a Killers-esque darkness to the track that makes this sound like a forlorn tale of love. This Killers influence is merged with echoes of Coldplay, working upon the moments of self reflection each band incorporate into their tracks, along with some rather endearing guitar riffs.

’The Low Life’ by Carl Miller

The influences of Tyler, the Creator are instantly apparent, but they are only part of a plethora of sounds that can be exuded from Carl Miller’s thoroughly engaging track. Smart, raw, and entertaining rap.
