Erykah Badu vents anger at The Flaming Lips
Recently a brand new video for Erykah Badu and The Flaming Lips cut 'The First Time I Ever Saw You' was released onto the internet, depicting nude shots of Badu and her sister Nayrok, which subsequently caused quite a stir. Since then Badu has launched a huge attack towards The Flaming Lips insisting that the video has been manipulated and she has been falsly represented, being made to do things she did not want too. Following Badu's comments The Flaming Lips released the following statement:
"The video link that was erroneously posted on Pitchfork by the Flaming Lips of the Music Video “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face”, which features Erykah Badu, is unedited and unapproved.. Sorry!! We, the Flaming Lips, accept full responsibility for prematurely having Pitchfork post it. It has outraged and upset a segment of fans and we apologize if we offended any viewers!!! This is a Flaming Lips video which features Erykah Badu and her sister Nayrok and is not meant to be considered an Erykah Badu or Nayrok statement, creation, or approved version"
Badu responded to the press release via her twitter, writing back paragraphs of venting and frustration, accusing the band of not understanding who Badu is as an artist which subsequently led her to calling Wayne Coyne an ass.
