Introducing #79 j*e*s*p*a

by Hannah Morgan, 21 May 2010

J*e*s*p*a decribe themselves as “half viking blues, half lost soul, half folk womble”. This description, while amusing, is also better than any description I could come up with after listening to their music. Consisting of Anthony Shepherd on guitar and vocals, and James Pepper on guitar and ukulele (primarily, at least; Tony also plays harmonica, cajonita, bodhran and other bits of percussion, while James doubles up on mandolin, melodica, xylophone, percussion and also sings) they play heartfelt folk/blues with wonderfully intricate guitar parts that provide a perfect accompaniment to Tony’s soaring voice, which really defies belief.
