Lady Gaga shares her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar
Earlier in the year, Kendrick Lamar received a lot of attention when Lady Gaga came to see his Pitchfork performance, leading to an announcement that the pair would be working together on a project.
Fast forward 5 or 6 months and Lamar goes and releases one of the best albums of the year, sans Gaga. Yesterday we found out why.
When speaking with MTV, Lamar explained timing issues had its part to play: "That situation was a deadline situation. We had to meet these pre-orders. I was frustrated about it. My team was frustrated about it, but at the same time, we had to move forward."
However, Gaga posted a letter which suggested it had more to do with management issues: "When I collaborate with an artist I work solely with them, not with their camps or management. Its purely organic and creative. I love Kendrick dearly as a friend, but was not willing to compromise musically to the changes his team was making to my music."
"This is why I am not [on] his record. I have a very specific vision as a producer and songwriter, and I always have. That song will be released at a different time, for a different project. I love you, and think you should check out his stuff because he is truly great. He’s a good kid, its just sometimes a mad city."
Listen to the new version of 'Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe' below, with Gaga on the chorus. We're pretty glad things didn't work out.
