Mew leave Sony

by Larry Day, 28 January 2013

Mew have ended their relationship with Sony after nearly a decade. Best known for their dream-glazed post-rock doused in shoegaze effects and the iconic falsetto of vocalist Jonas Bjerre, they have released a string of commercially and critically successful albums in Scandinavia, in recent years branching out to the US. The Danish alternative rock trio released their last album, No More Stories... back in 2009, and are rumoured to be heading back into the studio for an upcoming sixth LP, after previewing two new tracks on last years festival circuit – new material is likely to be released through their own label, Evil Office.

Bjerre recently spoke to CMU:

"We're building a setup in which our own label Evil Office will become the headquarters for all activities. From here we will seek out dedicated and passionate people around the globe both in relation to our releases but also to create other creative collaborations involving our music. It makes our job more demanding, but it also gives us the opportunity to act faster when good ideas or opportunities occur. We want to be able to take chances."
