No Hendrix songs for Hendrix biopic
We already know that the Jimi Hendrix biopic - starring Andrè 3000 - doesn't have the approval of the Hendrix family. Despite that, it's still going ahead anyway, jumping over and ducking under every obstacle that's being hurled at it left right and center.
Prefix reports that now, the film can't even secure rights any songs penned by Hendrix himself, resulting in the producers having to come up with other ways to actually have music in the film. Because, y'know, that's kind of the point.
Somehow, however, they've managed to acquire the rights to various songs that Hendrix had covered in his career. They couldn't get 'Purple Haze', but have managed to get the likes of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', 'Mannish Boy' and 'All Along The Watchtower'. If Mad Men had to pay $250,000 for one Beatles song, I'd hate to know how much it's gonna cost to allow Andrè 3000 to do a cover of one.
The film - titled All Is By My Side - will follow Hendrix's early days and rise to fame during the period of 1966-1967, and is currently being shot in Dublin with a release slated for early 2013.
