Outkast - 'Return of the G' (Ryan Hemsworth Rexmix)
Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth has recently remixed Lana Del Rey, Cat Power and Rhye, but for his next trick he's dipped way back into the past. Fifteen years to be precise and has nabbed Outkast's 1998 classic 'Return of the G', taken from their third album Aquemini.
He's dropped a thick, pulsating beat over the laid back raps of André 3000 and Big Boi, which is quite unsettling when it gains force. Elongated synths and repeated vocal ricochets litter the track with more swagger then ever before. Hemsworth has even subtly kept the phone ringing, nearer the end of the song, adding an bonus layer to discover.
We’re not complaining, of course, and on this particular track, a stinging left hook from Kitty, Sasha Go Hard and Tink by the name of ‘Spotless’, he’s boosted their rapid-fire vocal with booming percussion and an unnerving allure. We wouldn’t have it any other way, Ryan. [read more]
