Singles Of The Week // 4th April 2012

As a man who has just spent three days in Paris, and is now back in a pleasant but definitely less sexy Sussex, I think that I could be forgiven for not being on top of the world. However, with the barbeque weather dragging on, and my summer playlist sorted and sounding rather perfect, this week's singles are looking decidedly great, led by The Milk [read more]

Oh hello, god awful weather. As the world appears to approach the apocalypse, and I gear up to watch Jonny English, we are inundated with a good old mixed bag of singles for your delectation. From the astounding Girls, to the hernia inducing Spank Rock, with a stops along the way at Herman Dune and Forest Fire, I think that we’ve just about covered every possible sound known to man. The 405 Singles Of The Week // 19th July 2011

After a week off, I can tell that you are all absolutely raring to go with a little music and voting, so without any further ado I'd like to introduce you to the absolutely sensational musical stylings of Vinyl Jacket. Whilst there are further releases from the likes of Ben Howard, S.C.U.M and Sophie Barker, it is your favourite new Newcastle five-piece who comfortably take our title of Single of the Week with superb 'Koala'. Ladies and gentlemen, today is a good day. We have been neither raptured or apocalypsed (feel free to use this word), and the sun is officially shining in East Sussex, hub of new music and fashion. Even better, for the first time in memory, you have agreed with me in your choice for Single of the Week, with Lykke Li taking 45.4% of the vote, which I can only assume means that I have competition in my quest to marry her. I, however, remain confident. There's a proper mixed bag of... (continued) [read more]

I know that last week you thought you were stressed, but now this week is just ridiculous. A whole day late, here are the 405's Singles of the Week, following up a Let's Wrestle victory from last Monday, as they took exactly 50% of the vote. Sensational. Now I know that Eurovision is over, you may have had enough of revising 18th Century Literature (just me?) and it's still slightly too ambitious to be wearing shorts, whilst jeans are just a hindrance but Lykke Li has a new single... I know what you're thinking- I'm stressed, I've got exams coming up, the football season is nearly over, and Glastonbury is still over a month away. Have no fear, Single of the Week is (belatedly) here, and I have some absolute gems for you, from my own personal favourite in Tom Williams & the Boat, to Clock Opera and Ghostpoet; I think our selection may go a long way to defining the term 'eclectic'. To wrap up last week's contest, Joana & the Wolf came out on top with 67% of the ... (continued) [read more]

I have heard rumours that a relatively large world event has occurred today, and I'll be honest, Single of the Week doesn't quite measure up in terms of magnitude. However, it will have to do as light refreshment, with releases from Miles Kane, Sarabeth Tucek and The Computers, amongst others. Following on Kentish Fire's success last week, taking 48.91% of your votes, and Purity Ring following second with around 18%, I can offer everything from shoegaze to Detachments, with a very... You've eaten far too much chocolate, you're quite possibly hungover, and The Borrowers is currently on television. What a total win. I don't think I've ever known a better time for a round-up of The 405's Singles of the Week, and there have been some pretty good times. Ah, nostalgic flashback etc. After a strong start from The Heartbreaks last week, Rowdy Superstar won your vote for the best release with 'Get Your Shizzit Riiight', and The View fortunately only collected three vot... Following a strong start for Love Inks and We Are Enfant Terrible last week, The Goldberg Sisters burst into an unassailable lead with a final showing of 77.73%. Though I was initially unsure of 'Shush', I've since discovered that it is the side-project of actor Adam Goldberg (Eddie from Friends) and I'm now fully supportive of the decision, and intent on finding a way to maximise this and eventually become best friends with him. I firmly believe that it is practical. A Hollywood ... (continued) [read more]

So last week I actually managed to pick an agreeable Single of the Week, with Colleen Green winding up second, just behind 6 Day Riot who took a little over 50% of the public vote.  Another week, another two horse race. Once again, our selections this time are of a very strong calibre, with The Joy Formidable and Alessi’s Ark particularly standing out. As always, check my favourite track below, then have a listen to the rest of the week’s releases and get voting at the botto...
