Having spent the past year recording their second album ‘Gloves’, those still ridiculously young Australian funsters Operator Please are back with ‘Logic’. Having promised a more electronic feel to their sound, this initial single definitely backs up that view. Starting for all the world like an 80s pastiche, maybe even of ‘Word Up’, it soon morphs into something that would have fitted on Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ last album - if they hadn’t lost their sense of humour. Operator Please’s MySpace lists five ‘Princesses of Pop’ as their influences and the feeling you get is this is a band that just wants to have fun.

“I’m taking a side in this battle royale” sings Amandah while cowbells and synths beat away in an unremitting yet enchanting fashion all around her. With CSS’ unfortunate absence from the airwaves and festival scene, there is surely space for an antipodean band that exist purely to make people dance and with ‘Logic’, the Gold Coast five-piece may well have stepped up to the plate. The other bonus - it is no way near as annoying as ‘Just A Song About Ping Pong’.
