Welcome to another Singles Roundup!

Info: The Third Degree - Mercy
Release date: Out Now!
Website: http://www.myspace.com/trisoundmyspace

I don't particularly like Duffy, or her hit 'Mercy', but this cover is pretty damn fantastic. It's an upbeat and funkier version of the Welsh singers song and is the creation of The Third Degree. Vocally it's a master-class in Northern Soul and as a band they've managed to cover a huge song and ultimately make it better, which isn't easy.

Rating: 8/10

Info: Buck Brothers - You're So Good, Good, Good You're Great
Release date: Out Now!
Website: http://www.myspace.com/buckbrothers

I had the displeasure of reviewing their last single and although this song is slightly less annoying than their previous effort, it's still pretty dire. Punky, pointless and stupid.

Rating: 3/10

Info: Vandeville Falls - When I Fall
Release date: 06/07/09
Website: http://www.vandevillefalls.com

The issue I have with this single is that I shouldn't feel tried at 11 in the morning. I had a good night sleep, I've eaten some food and the sunshine is powering through my window. To say this song is putting me to sleep would be an understatment. It's just a bit 'middle of the road' for my liking. The singers voice is quite nice though, especially on 'Rapture' (b-side).

Info: Rose Elinor Dougall - Start/Stop/Synchro
Release date: 14/06/09
Website: http://www.myspace.com/roseelinordougallmusic

Ex Pipette singer Rose Elinor Dougall has left her polka dot dress in the wardrobe and swapped it for an ambient swirly night gown. It's not particularly exciting but is definitely a huge departure from The Pipettes sound and in a good way too.

Rating: 6/10

Info: Lucky Elephant - Edgar/Elephant
Release date: 05/07/09
Website: http://www.myspace.com/luckyelephantmusic

Blimey! In the last 6 months The Kooks managed to get some musicality, write sone good songs and managed to expand their musical horizons. Ahh, just kidding. It's Lucky Elephant, not The Kooks. Seriously though, imagine the pop beauty of The Kooks but done by people with talent. Nice work guys.

Rating:7.5/10

Info: Cheatahs - Warrior/Minotaur
Release date: 30/06/09
Website: http://www.myspace.com/cheatahssuck

Cheatahs is the new project from Nathan Hewitt (Little Death). 'Warrior' is a melancholic, fuzzy nightmare whilst 'Minotaur' descends even further into the depths of lo-fi noise. Quite enjoyable though and gets me excited to hear a full length release.

Rating: 7/10

Info: Girls - Hellhole Ratrace *SINGLE OF THE WEEK*
Release date: 06/07/09
Website: http://www.myspace.com/girlssanfran

I'm pretty sure that this song will be played at my funeral. The downhearted spirit mixed with a romantic spine reminds me of Morrissey but without the pomp or fanfare.

Lovely.

Rating: 8/10

Info: UH OHs - I Can't Wait/I Am Underdog
Release date: 29/06/09
Website: http://www.myspace.com/uhohs1

Double A-Side yeah? That's what everyones doing these days! Thankfully the Uh Oh's have picked two strong songs. 'I Cant Wait' sounds a bit like a British Indie version of The Yeah Yeah Yeah's whilst ' I Am Underdog' is a bit too Topshop indie for my liking, though solid.

Rating: 6.9/10

These are the worst reviews I've ever read.
Are you 13?
Do you know anything about journalism?
Your reviewing skills get a 1/10 mate.
Get someone in who actually might know a little about music and writing.

heheh. I'm assuming you like one of the bands that I bashed (Buck Brothers anyone?). I do know a lot about journalism actually. The thing is, if you've followed this site before you'll know that the singles roundup is generally supposed to be brief and throw away. If they were done as individual reviews I would have put much more effort in. So while I appreciate your opinion, I feel it's completely out of context.

@Johny76: Would you like to give it a go yourself? Frankly you seem to think you know a whole lot about music and writing.

What's even more funny is the fact that you make our writers out to be '13', whereas only a 13 year old could post a comment like that. So, maybe you need to think and act like a grown up before posting a comment like that.
